Hello and welcome to Pittsburgh PCIT and Counseling! My experience to therapy is eclectic-meaning I use many different approaches including: person-centered, trauma informed, and mindfulness. Choosing to heal and be more alive in our society is a brave, daring, and difficult act. I enjoy working with people who want to understand and support themselves in healing from and with shame, disconnection, stagnancy, and trauma with the goal of becoming more alive, more true to themselves, and more genuinely connected with themselves and the world around them. I am a gentle and open person who enjoys using humor and delicately mixing the light and dark of the world in the healing journey. My goal is for you to feel safe in expressing and sharing who you are, to give you a place to rest and explore free of judgement. I am skilled in DBT and ITCT. I am pursuing training in Somatic Experiencing Therapy. I have specialized in working with teens and young adults who are experiencing depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, self-harm, BPD, bipolar disorder, and complex trauma. I am dedicated to anti-racism. I am of the LGBTQ+ community and bilingual in Spanish and English. I currently accept UPMC, CCBHO (Medicaid), Highmark, Cigna, and Aetna insurances. I also offer sliding scale sessions. I can offer free introduction phone calls to see if we are a good fit!

The different therapeutic modalities I utilize include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing. Have you ever thought, “Why is this happening to me?”, “I feel so alone,” or “Is this normal?” If so, you’re not alone—and I would love to support you. Whether you’re juggling the demands and transitions of daily life or navigating the complex and long-lasting effects of trauma, I can offer a safe and validating space where your experiences are heard, honored and supported. I provide couples’ and individual counseling for adolescents (ages 14+) and adults experiencing trauma, eating disorders, perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs), anxiety, depression, self-harm, and self-esteem challenges. As a Licensed Professional Counselor, I use a trauma-informed approach and draw from evidence-based practices including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, and mindfulness. With a trauma-focused therapeutic style, I support individuals in understanding their emotional experiences, building regulation skills, and learning to cope in helpful and appropriate ways. Whether you’re ready to challenge unhelpful thought patterns or simply need someone to listen and hold space, I am here for you.

I work with folks who are yearning for deeper connection to others or themselves. We all long for connection, while also fearing it. I encourage my clients to bring all parts of themselves into our work together. Come as you are! I believe in the folks I work with, and I believe in the transformative power of relationships, community, and connection to heal. To schedule a free, no-obligation 15-minute phone consultation, please contact me via email (dralvarezcounseling@protonmail.com) or phone (305-699-2024). Inward and onward! *** Please note that at this point in time I am only able to take insurance for BOSTON COLLEGE students who have UnitedHealthcare Student Resources.
Sometimes life feels overwhelming — stress, anxiety, depression or relationship challenges can leave you feeling stuck and unsure how to move forward. Therapy can help you understand why you feel this way and explore new paths toward change. Often, what seems like the “problem” on the surface is connected to something deeper. Together, we’ll work to uncover and understand these underlying patterns so that meaningful change can happen. I provide a safe, supportive space to explore your experiences and help you create more satisfying relationships and a life that feels aligned with your goals.
Welcome to Shifa Therapy LLC, a space for healing. My practice centers the Global Majority in NJ, NY, and PA, especially BIPOC folks within the LGBTQIA+ community. I integrate different approaches like Somatic Experiencing, IFS, EMDR, and Liberation Psychology to help navigate the stress, adversity, and trauma of life. My goal as your therapist is for you to be seen and understood as you are. No code-switching necessary. Throughout our work, I will invite you with patience and compassion, going at your pace as you build new adaptations toward thriving. Think of this as a relational and experiential kind of process that goes beyond insight and coping skills. Feel free to email me with questions about getting started. If I have a waitlist, I'll still offer a consultation call to see if we'd be a good fit for the future. I look forward to meeting you!
As a psychologist-in-training, I offer a collaborative and non-judgmental space where you can explore your experiences with curiosity, openness, and compassion. I believe in meeting you where you are and creating an environment where you feel respected, supported, and free to experience and express your emotions. My clinical approach draws from existential and feminist perspectives. In therapy, we will examine the many layers of your identity, while exploring how your experiences, relationships, and environment have influenced the way you think, feel, and navigate the world. I believe our mental health is influenced by both internal and external factors, and I will help you explore these influences. Together, we can consider what gives your life purpose and meaning, and remain open to discovering those sources across all realms of your experience. I work with individuals across a wide range of ages, backgrounds, identities, and life experiences, and welcome the complexity that comes with being human. I especially welcome those navigating identity exploration, life transitions, traumatic experiences, and/or questions regarding purpose and meaning. As a therapist who highlights the importance of finding a sense of meaning and purpose in even the little things, I strive to uphold this in my personal life. Therefore, when I am not working or in class, I enjoy sewing, watching movies, spending time with my cat, going on walks, getting lost in a jigsaw puzzle, and listening to music. *Christi is currently a doctoral-level trainee in clinical psychology, working under the supervision of licensed psychologist Dr. Chelsea Chase. Sessions are conducted virtually and offered on a low-cost, sliding-scale basis.
Finding a good therapy match is crucial to bringing about the change that you desire in your life. Working with someone where you feel seen, understood and challenged in a non-threatening way creates the safety to explore the unknown and grow into your full potential. I have been in private practice for 16 years and I trained and worked at Tufts University Counseling Center for 4 years. In the wise words of author Sharon Salzberg, "If I opened my heart and mind big enough to take in the suffering, then there would be healing- not because the suffering itself is redemptive or healing, but because of the opening I was cultivating in the face of it."

Welcome! I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who works with adults navigating life transitions, anxiety, depression, grief, and trauma, particularly experiences related to family of origin and attachment. While I work with adults of all ages, I have a special interest in supporting emerging adults - including college, graduate, and medical students - as they manage the emotional and relational challenges that can arise during these stages of life. I support clients in addressing current life challenges while also seeking to answer questions about why these challenges exist in the first place. I do this through a collaborative, relational, and trauma-informed approach that blends deeper insight with practical support. Drawing from psychodynamic and attachment-based work, along with CBT, DBT, and mindfulness, I help clients understand patterns, regulate emotions, and build skills that support meaningful, lasting change. Starting therapy can feel uncertain, and it’s completely normal to have questions or mixed emotions. Please know you don’t have to figure it out on your own. I aim to create a space where you feel safe, supported, and understood. If you’re considering therapy, I invite you to reach out to see if we would be a good fit.
