Therapists for college students near University of Pennsylvania
At CenteredMind Online, I specialize in working with students who are feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or emotionally drained, and are ready to feel more balanced and in control of their lives. Many of the clients I work with are juggling academic pressures, relationships, and personal expectations, often while hiding how stressed or stuck they feel. On the outside, they may seem high-functioning, but internally they’re quietly struggling with anxiety, depression, ADHD, or sleep issues. If you’ve been finding it harder to focus, stay motivated, or feel rested, no matter how hard you try, you’re not alone, and you don’t have to figure it out on your own. That’s where I come in. I provide a calm, nonjudgmental space where you can feel heard and understood, and your mental health is finally a priority. Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, panic attacks, depression, or simply feeling unmotivated or disconnected, we’ll work together to find a clear path forward. My approach is compassionate, and focused on helping you feel more grounded, and more like yourself again. I offer both medication management and supportive therapy, tailored to your individual needs. Together, we’ll look at what’s getting in your way and build a plan to help you move forward with solutions to help you feel more balanced and centered. CenteredMind Online is a fully virtual psychiatric practice, so you can meet with me from the comfort and privacy of your own space. I offer flexible scheduling, including evenings and weekends, to make care more accessible. No commuting. No waiting rooms. Just real support when you need it most. I believe therapy works best as a collaborative relationship rooted in compassion and respect. My goal is to provide a safe and supportive environment to encourage personal insight and provide skills to help you navigate challenges and enhance your overall well-being.
Although we cannot change our past, we can acknowledge its impact. We can change how we view our past and ourselves. While working with clients, I encourage expression to gain self-awareness and to reshape narratives. Expression is essential in everyday life, especially when working through difficult times, such as grief and trauma. I practice therapy with a person-centered, trauma-informed, strength based approach to meet clients where they are and to help them make changes to start the healing process. For some clients, verbal expression can be difficult. Creative expression can demonstrate one’s thoughts and feelings in a tangible way. Art Therapy can be helpful in exploring one’s thoughts and feelings and fostering self-awareness. As an Art Therapist, I have the ability and knowledge to bring artmaking into the therapy session and to help facilitate the healing process. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and a Board-Certified Registered Art Therapist (ATR-BC). I have many years of experience helping people with trauma, grief, depression, anxiety, body image, self-esteem, and addiction. I have experience practicing therapeutic techniques of Trauma Informed Care, CBT, DBT, and MI, as well as Crisis Intervention. I am available for in person sessions, as well as telehealth/virtual sessions.
Shannon Weise and Emily Mccollister have specialized experience in the treatment of adults with anxiety disorders, including panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, and specific phobias such as emetophobia. Their approach to treatment involves collaborative goal-setting with clients to determine areas for intervention and the use of evidence-based treatment methods tailored to each individual. They provide outpatient intensive OCD treatment, in-home services and in-office sessions. As your therapist, we will provide a supportive, caring space for you to grow and gain the tools necessary for change. We are gently honest and straightforward, non-judgmental and accepting. Please invite us on your journey...
At EmBODY Confidence, we support neurodivergent women and teens who struggle with eating disorders, body dysmorphia, anxiety, low self-esteem, and emotional dysregulation. Our approach is grounded in compassion, authenticity, and self-understanding, helping you feel truly at home in your body without shame or apology. You want to trust your emotions, take up space, eat without guilt, and show up fully in your life. We are here to help you get there with compassion, clarity, and courage. Together, we explore the deeper roots of your struggles, build awareness of the systems that created them, and develop tools for lasting change. We work collaboratively, because you know yourself and your body best. We are a fat-positive, anti-diet, LGBTQIA+, and gender-affirming practice aligned with Health at Every Size® (HAES). EmBODY Confidence is neurodivergent-affirming and committed to creating a space where every body, identity, and mind is welcomed and safe. Research shows that neurodivergent women and LGBTQIA+ individuals are more likely to experience eating disorders or disordered eating patterns than cisgender individuals. Unfortunately, traditional treatment models often fail to meet their unique needs. Our work bridges that gap with affirming, specialized care designed specifically for you. You do not have to do this alone. Healing is possible and you are absolutely worthy of it.
College life can be exciting and rewarding, but it can also bring new pressures, responsibilities, relationships, and challenges that can feel overwhelming. Adjusting to academic demands, navigating friendships and relationships, living away from home, managing expectations, and taking care of your mental health can sometimes feel like a lot to handle. I work with college students experiencing anxiety, depression, ADHD, OCD, mood concerns, trauma-related difficulties, relationship and social challenges, and the emotional stresses that often accompany major life transitions. Sometimes students know exactly what is wrong; other times, they simply know that they don't feel like themselves or that something is making it difficult to function at their best. My approach combines psychiatric medication management with psychotherapy and supportive counseling. I believe treatment should be individualized and collaborative, taking into account not only symptoms, but also the whole person and the circumstances affecting their mental health. Together, we can explore what you are experiencing, identify patterns that may be contributing to your difficulties, and develop practical strategies to help you feel more balanced and in control. I strive to provide a warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where students feel comfortable being honest about what they are experiencing. My goal is to help you better understand yourself, feel more grounded, and develop the tools and support you need to navigate college and life with greater confidence.

Something feels off, and you can't quite name it. You're doing everything you were supposed to do, but the life you're living doesn't feel fully like yours. You look around and it seems like everyone else found their footing, their person, their purpose. And quietly, you've started to wonder: Why not me? What am I missing? The gap between where you are and where you thought you'd be by now can feel like failure, even when, logically, you know it isn't. You're measuring yourself against a timeline you didn't write, comparing your insides to everyone else's outsides, and coming up short every time. The loneliness isn't just about being single or not having the career you wanted. It's the disconnection from yourself, from knowing who you are and what you actually want, separate from what you were always told to want. You don't need to have it all figured out. But you do deserve to feel at home in your own life, curious about where you're going rather than ashamed of where you are. You deserve to trust yourself again. I work with women who are navigating that in-between, exploring who they are, longing for real connection, and untangling the anxiety that comes with feeling behind. Together, we'll loosen the grip of comparison, get clear on what you actually value, and help you build a life that feels genuinely yours, not a performance of what it was supposed to look like. I offer online therapy in North Carolina and Pennsylvania. If this sounds like you, please reach out to schedule a free 15 minute consultation!
I enjoy working with various populations in age, race, cultural experiences, and mental health needs. I thrive working with middle adolescents, young to middle-age adults, and college students. My professional experience is anchored in my passion for working with individuals from the BIPOC community.
I’m not your “just nod and validate everything” therapist. I have a B.S. from Penn State and an M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (Children, Adolescents, and Trauma) from Lock Haven—but more importantly, I meet you where you are, not where you “should” be. I use person-centered and parts work, but I’m flexible and tailor therapy to what actually works for you. I love working with teens and young adults, but if you’ve got a brain and feelings, we’ll get along. I’m direct, I use humor, and I’ll call you out (with care). I’m here to help you grow—even when it’s uncomfortable. My style? Person-centered and parts work at the core, with flexibility built in. I adjust, pivot, and pull from different approaches based on what actually helps you, not what sounds the most clinical or impressive. I want all of my clients to walk into my room and feel as though they are sitting down with a friend, not a professional. I focus heavily on building rapport, getting to know you as an individual and not just as "my client." We will laugh, cry, process, and cope together in your mental wellness journey!

I am pleased that you are here. I know it is not easy to take this first step, but I want you to know first and foremost, that I take great care and pride in creating a safe place for my clients to talk about their internal conflicts, interpersonal problems, traumas, and whatever is interfering with living a fuller, richer life. I bring to my clinical practice a great deal of skills coupled with passion to engage in a meaningful therapeutic relationship. I invite clients to increase their self-awareness while aspiring to high levels of wellness: biologically, psychologically, relationally, sexually and spiritually. I offer a safe space free of judgment, filled with compassion and kindness towards your own process. My theoretical orientation to counseling is rooted in humanistic theories with underlying existentialism and phenomenological philosophies. I firmly believe in the therapeutic alliance and its curative power, in addition to striving to look at all situations from a sex positive, non-shaming, and non-judgmental lens.
