Therapists for college students near Duke University
People seek counseling for many reasons. Regardless of your reason, it is a brave and vulnerable step to take and I’m glad you’re here. My role is to assist you in reaching the goals you have for yourself by providing safe and non-judgmental support, and helping you to exercise your own strengths, rather than to give you advice. Until recently, I was a mental health counselor on a small college campus. I have worked with many college students on diverse issues such as depression, anxiety, loneliness, and stress, and I understand the challenges of grappling with these issues while also trying to succeed in college. Let's talk!
My name is Jessie and I have been working with children, teens, and adults in goal-directed, individual therapy for over 10 years. I specialize in working with depression, anxiety, and trauma and I have been trained in TF-CBT (trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy) and DBT (dialectical behavioral therapy). I utilize many modalities in my treatment but have most experience with mindfulness, CBT, DBT, and goal-directed/solution-focused therapy. I happily incorporate different approaches in my therapy style to best support you. I enjoy helping individuals change their cognitions to function in a healthier way. I balance listening, understanding, and questioning to help you find your best solution. I utilize education to help the client gain insight about potential changes to improve daily life, relationships, emotional control, and (most importantly): happiness. I am open to feedback and believe that therapy is client directed. My preference is for continual goal evaluation to measure successes and define challenges. I provide a safe and understanding place for clients to explore and express themselves. I look forward to helping you define and achieve your goals.

Hello, and welcome. I’m a licensed clinical social worker who works with adults navigating anxiety, OCD, and a history of trauma. I know how exhausting it can be when your mind keeps pulling you away from the life you actually want to live. My approach is active and collaborative. I won't just sit back and listen. I often bring humor into sessions too—it's a natural way to soften rigidity, gain perspective, and open the door to change. Together, we'll draw on evidence-based, trauma-informed methods, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), and other cognitive-behavioral and mindfulness-based approaches, shaped around what actually works for you. Where it's helpful, we'll also bring in mindfulness and somatic techniques to build your ability to get present, even in moments that feel hard. At the center of this work is curiosity and self-compassion: learning to meet your thoughts and feelings instead of fighting them. That shift tends to be what opens things up—clearer self-understanding, more effective ways of coping, and the courage to make choices that move you toward living well.

Together, we’ll explore what’s getting in the way and develop strategies that help you feel more confident, balanced, and connected.
