I am a psychiatric mental health board-certified nurse practitioner. I attended The University of Alabama at Birmingham to complete my graduate degree. Before becoming a nurse practitioner, I worked as a registered nurse in the Neurosciences Intensive Care Unit at the University of Birmingham Hospital. Committing to patient-centered care, I leverage my training and educational background to achieve optimal outcomes for my patients. I develop a treatment plan for each patient using evidence-based research. I work with a multidisciplinary team, putting the mental health and well-being of each patient first. I am committed to fostering a therapeutic environment that promotes trust, open communication, and collaboration between patients and their healthcare team. In addition to a physical assessment, a comprehensive mental health evaluation is also performed during the initial visit. A treatment plan is then developed based on the patient's short- and long-term objectives. Every strategy is tailored to the individual patient and may involve lifestyle modifications, medication management, and addressing physical health concerns.

Are you trying to keep up with classes, deadlines, work, relationships, and family expectations while quietly feeling like you are falling apart? Maybe you cannot turn your thoughts off. You keep procrastinating, missing assignments, losing motivation, or feeling anxious about your future. Maybe your romantic relationship has taken a turn and it has you feeling down or unlike yourself. You may look fine to everyone else, but inside you feel exhausted, overwhelmed, lonely, or unsure of yourself. College is supposed to be exciting, but right now it may feel like too much. I’m Teinesha Smallwood, LCSW, owner of Whispers of Serenity Counseling and Consulting PLLC. I provide online therapy for college students and young adults throughout North Carolina. I help students work through anxiety, depression, academic stress, burnout, trauma, grief, relationship problems, family conflict, low self esteem, difficult life changes, and more. Therapy with me is not about being judged, lectured, or expected to have everything figured out. It is a space where you can be honest about what is really happening. Together, we can work on calming your thoughts, managing stress, setting boundaries, rebuilding confidence, and finding practical ways to feel more in control of your life. Virtual sessions make it easier to receive support without traveling or adding another task to your schedule. Whether you are struggling to adjust to college, questioning your direction, or simply tired of pretending you are okay, you do not have to handle it alone. **Schedule a free 15 minute consultation. You don’t have to do college or life alone.**

I practice via telehealth in NY, NC, WA, and TX. I specialize in working with adult men and women who may look fine on the outside, but inside you're struggling to get your own needs met, self-doubt, perfectionism, and shame. Gestalt Therapy goes beyond looking only at the cognitive, linear perspective of the person. It demands of the therapist an awareness of the body and how it manifests in the psyche. Through its focus on process rather than content, the patient gains an experiential awareness of how they do what they do and new choices emerge spontaneously. The radical focus on process in Gestalt creative therapy keeps the work alive and full of possibility for both the patient and for my work as a therapist. Melissa Bennett-Heinz obtained her master’s degree in clinical social work from Columbia University (Class of 2002) and is a graduate of Gestalt Associates for Psychotherapy in New York City, NY. In addition to her background in Gestalt Therapy, she obtained her bachelor's and master’s degrees from the esteemed conservatory, Manhattan School of Music, in New York City, where she majored in Oboe Performance. Melissa completed cognitive behavioral studies under the tutelage of Dr. William Sanderson. She is a licensed clinical social worker in NY, WA, NC, and TX and has over twenty years of specialized training and experience in PTSD, childhood abuse, mood and anxiety disorders. Melissa brings her background as a classical musician and deep spirituality together in her unique approach in Gestalt's creative and experiential therapy.

Hardworking, ambitious, fucking exhausted. I work with women (18–30) who look like they have it together but are absolutely depleting themselves to stay that way. They’re responsible, creative, used to handling a lot…but they’re tired of overthinking, second-guessing, or feeling like no matter how hard they work, it’s never enough. Some have anxiety, depression, ADHD, or trauma histories. Others just know something feels off, that life feels heavier than it should. Often, they’re great at coping on the outside, which can make it hard to admit they’re struggling at all. But let’s be honest: Appearing “fine” is a full-time job. In therapy, we slow things down on purpose. We look at the patterns you’ve been stuck in — people-pleasing, avoidance, self-criticism — and figure out what’s actually driving them. We work with your nervous system instead of fighting against it. We build practical tools that help you move forward in your life. My style is warm, direct, & honest. I care deeply about my clients and will absolutely challenge you when it matters. I use EMDR, ACT, & DBT skills in ways that are personal and actually useful.

My name is Kira (she/her) and I am here to help you heal relational wounds. Relationships are foundational to our experience. Connection, intimacy, and feelings of safety are all tied into the relationships formed with ourselves, our communities, and even the natural world. These interactions, or lack thereof, shape our stories and affirm the kind of narratives we tell ourselves about the world around us. You and I’s relationship will act as a conduit for understanding these messages with the intention of cultivating greater connectedness. If relationships are the chapters within our stories, identity is the color and context that fills the pages. Our roles and identities are interwoven together to create the way in which we move through the world. My experience as the eldest child to Caribbean immigrants informed me of this at an early age as I realized not all of my parts of self were allowed expression. I came to understand that the cumulative burdens of family, society, and ancestry not only impacted myself, but everyone around me. The persistent stigma and lack of accessibility for quality mental health care is just one example of these collective burdens. For that reason, my practice is rooted in the belief that decolonizing mental health is essential for fostering genuine healing. I aim to expand traditional frameworks by valuing cultural diversity and understanding the role of historical trauma in shaping individual experiences. Together, we will navigate the impact of these legacies on mental health, promoting an inclusive and holistic therapeutic process. I look forward to connecting with you soon.
